Spider Identification

Tips for Getting the Best Results

  • Use a clear, well-lit image where the jumping spider is the main subject.
  • Top-down photos of the spider that capture its abdominal pattern usually yield better results than front-facing photos.
  • The classifier is not always correct, but often one of the top results will be correct. Use the iNaturalist links to look through other observations for comparison.
  • Not all NH jumping spiders are in the dataset yet, so some results may be incorrect. Please visit the Species page to see which species are included currently.
  • Upload the image to iNaturalist to get a better identification if necessary.

Example Images

Good Example Image 1

Good Picture

Even though the spider looks small, the model can accurately identify it based on the abdominal pattern.

Bad Example Image 1

Challenging

While a nice picture, the camera-facing angle of the spider is not the best for the current model.
